The core concrete slab calculation uses the slab area and concrete thickness. Additional calculations extend the estimate to thickened edges, waste allowance, sub-base material, reinforcement, control joints, formwork, concrete supply, and cost.
For multiple rectangular sections, calculate each section separately and add the areas together.

Area = 20 ft × 10 ft = 200 ft². At 4 inches of concrete thickness, the slab volume is approximately 2.47 yd³ before the selected 10% over-order allowance. The calculator then combines the applicable project settings and displays the concrete order quantity, sub-base requirement, reinforcement quantity, control-joint layout, formwork, and optional cost estimate.

Measure the slab accurately
- Measure length: record the longest dimension of each rectangular slab section.
- Measure width: record the dimension across each section.
- Measure thickness: enter the planned concrete depth, such as 4 in, 5 in, or 6 in.
- Count sections: add separate sections when the project contains multiple rectangular areas.
Use consistent measurement units

Enable the thickened-edge option when the slab design includes an edge beam or thickened perimeter. Enter the edge width and extra edge depth so the additional concrete volume is included in the order quantity.

- Rebar grid: select bar spacing, stocked bar length, and lap allowance.

Control-joint spacing affects the panel layout and sawcut length. The calculator uses the slab thickness with a 24×, 30×, or 36× thickness rule, or allows a custom joint spacing value for a project-specific layout.
Include concrete waste
Concrete orders commonly require an allowance above the theoretical volume because site conditions, uneven subgrade, measurement tolerances, placement losses, and delivery requirements can affect the final quantity. The calculator provides 5%, 10%, and 15% quick selections while allowing a custom allowance up to 30%.
Check ready-mix or bagged concrete
