Consider a rectangular room measuring 15 ft × 12 ft with 1 room section. The flooring uses 48 × 7 inch laminate planks, each box covers 20.06 ft², the expansion gap is 10 mm, the installation pattern is straight and the wastage allowance is 8%.
In this example, the gross floor area is 180 ft². Applying 8% wastage produces 194.4 ft² of required laminate coverage. A 48 × 7 inch plank covers about 2.33 ft², so the calculator rounds the plank requirement upward. With 20.06 ft² of coverage per box, the box quantity is rounded up to complete boxes.
