Patio Calculator Formula

The Patio Calculator uses standard geometric area formulas and material-volume calculations, with unit conversions applied before the final quantities are calculated.

The calculation starts with the gross patio area, subtracts deduction areas, applies the waste allowance and then calculates the paving module, material volumes and optional project costs.

Rectangle Area
Area = Length × Width

Use the patio length and width in the selected measurement unit, then convert the result to square metres for the main material calculations.

Circle Area
Area = π × (Diameter ÷ 2)²

Enter the diameter of the circular patio section. The calculator uses half the diameter as the radius.

Triangle Area
Area = ½ × Base × Height

Net Patio Area
Net Area = Added Areas − Deducted Areas

Module Area = (Paver L + Joint) × (Paver W + Joint)

The joint allowance is included in the module spacing used to estimate the number of pavers or slabs required.

Pavers = Ceiling(Order Area ÷ Module Area)

The result is rounded up to a whole slab or paver because a partial physical unit cannot be ordered as a complete paving piece.

Excavation Volume
Excavation = Net Area × (Slab + Bedding + Sub-base Depth)

The calculator combines the paving slab thickness, bedding depth and sub-base depth to estimate the excavation volume.
