3. Deduct permanent non-floor areas
Subtract areas that genuinely will not receive vinyl flooring, such as fixed cabinets, built-in islands or permanent fixtures. Do not deduct movable furniture that will be removed before installation.
4. Choose the correct vinyl format
- Sheet vinyl: calculate roll width, drops and linear roll length.
- Vinyl plank: calculate plank quantity and box coverage.

5. Check the manufacturer's product coverage

Sheet vinyl is supplied in fixed roll widths. The required drops depend on the dimension across the selected drop direction, so changing the drop direction can change the number of drops, seams and roll length.
8. Account for pattern repeat and trimming
Patterned sheet vinyl can require additional material for matching. Enter the pattern repeat and trim allowance per drop when those requirements apply to the selected product.
9. Check adhesive requirements
Adhesive quantity is estimated from net floor area and the entered coverage per container. Product-specific adhesive spread rates can differ, so verify the manufacturer's coverage specification.
10. Measure trim and thresholds separately
Skirting, scotia, trim and threshold bars are not the same measurement as floor area. The calculator estimates trim from perimeter and subtracts the selected doorway widths when trim is included.
11. Treat cost figures as estimates
Material price, adhesive price, installation cost, floor preparation, trim and threshold pricing can vary by product, supplier, location and installer. Enter current supplier prices for a project-specific estimate and confirm quantities and installation requirements before ordering.
